Skin tags are benign, soft growths that hang from the skin, usually in areas with friction: the neck, underarms, groin, and eyelids. They are not dangerous in themselves, but they catch on necklaces, collars, and bras — and many people simply do not like how they look.
At Maayan Cosmetics in Tiberias, removal is performed with Plasma Fibroblast technology, after one stage we do not skip: referral to a dermatologist and approval for removal.
Why we do not remove anything before physician approval
Plasma technology vaporizes the tissue. That means — after treatment there is no tissue left that can be sent for pathological examination. So the moment a finding is not a clear skin tag but a pigmented lesion, the question "what is this actually" must be closed before removal, not after.
Every patient who comes to us with a finding for removal is sent to their dermatologist, and only with approval do we proceed.
Two points worth knowing:
- The dermatologist visit is done through your health fund — with your physician, not through us. This is not a private procedure we charge for.
- We will refuse to treat a finding that has not been approved, even if you came especially and even if it looks "exactly like the others."
Skin tag, mole, wart — these are not synonyms
- Skin tag — a soft growth, usually on a thin "stalk," in the skin's tone or slightly darker.
- Mole — a pigmented lesion. Requires a physician's assessment — not automatically considered suitable for aesthetic removal.
- Wart — viral origin. A completely different treatment approach.
- Milia — tiny keratin cysts. Not skin tags.
To an untrained eye these four can look very similar. That is exactly why the first stage is identification, not removal.

What actually happens in the treatment
This is the part most websites skip, so here is the full picture.
Numbing. In the areas we treat we apply a numbing product before removal. The exception is the eyelid area — there a numbing product is not used.
How much it hurts. We will not promise you "painless," because that is not true. The sensation patients describe is a surface sting — noticeable, but not at a level that is hard to bear. The treatment works on the surface, not in depth, and that is what explains the character of the sensation.
How long it takes.
- A single finding — 5–10 minutes.
- An area with several findings — up to 45 minutes.
There is no limit on the number of findings that can be removed in one session. When there is a large quantity, we sometimes decide to split the treatment into two sessions — not for operational reasons, but so as not to overload the skin all at once.
Recovery — what to expect in the days after
A scab forms in the treated area. That is normal and it is part of the process. The scab falls off on its own — do not peel it and do not scratch it.
Redness in the area is expected. Swelling does not always appear, and that depends on skin sensitivity.
- Up to a week — the main recovery.
- After a week — makeup can be applied to the area.
- Up to two weeks — full recovery.
These ranges vary between people and between areas, and the precise instructions are given at the end of the treatment according to what was actually done.
The critical instruction: a soothing cream as directed, and avoiding sun exposure on the treated area. Skin in recovery is sensitive to tone changes, and exposure at this stage can affect the aesthetic result.
If you have many skin tags — it is worth mentioning this to your family physician
The medical literature documents a link between a large number of skin tags and metabolic markers. A professional medical review notes that prevalence rises with age, with obesity, and with metabolic syndrome, and that many epidemiological studies link them to type 2 diabetes, dyslipidemia, insulin resistance, and polycystic ovary syndrome — and that multiple or recurring lesions justify further investigation.
What this does not mean: that you have diabetes. That a single skin tag indicates something. That we check this — we do not, and we have no tools for it.
What it does mean: that if many tags appeared in a short period, that is one sentence worth saying to your family physician at the next visit. That is all.
How the process works with us
- [In-clinic consultation and skin diagnosis](/blog/skin-diagnosis) — Maayan Meir or Elinor Meir. Diagnosis is done using the MEICET PRO-A system and lasts up to 30 minutes, and at the end you receive a digital report.
- Referral to a dermatologist to receive approval for removal.
- Preparation and disinfection of the area on the treatment day.
- Targeted removal with a Plasma Fibroblast device.
- A soothing cream and instructions for afterwards, and follow-up as needed.
Treatments are performed by the therapist team, according to the protocols Maayan Meir developed. The clinic works in a plan model — not "one therapist for the whole way" — and the stage determines who performs it. The current team is a women's team.
Coming from afar? How to save a trip
The physician-referral policy sounds like two trips. For someone who lives in Tiberias that is not dramatic — but we receive patients from all over the country, and for them it is.
The solution is simple: in the first WhatsApp message, tell us where you are coming from. We will send you in advance to your dermatologist, and if you arrive with removal approval in hand — the consultation and the treatment take place in the same session. One trip.
And when you arrive: we have 10 private parking spaces for clinic clients, at no charge. The clinic is accessible — entrance, parking, treatment room, and restrooms.
How pricing is determined
There is no uniform price list for skin tag removal, and we cannot give you a price on the phone before we have seen the finding. But it is worth understanding according to what we price, because it is different from what is customary elsewhere:
- Pricing by a single finding, or by area. Not by session.
- If we decide to split the treatment into two sessions — you do not pay twice. You purchased removal for an area, and that is what you receive, in however many sessions are required.
- There is no surcharge for quantity of findings in a session.
- The dermatologist visit is done through the health fund, and is not part of the cost with us.
The diagnosis costs 150 ₪, and is fully credited toward the plan if you choose to proceed. That is — for anyone who continues, the diagnosis costs nothing. Cancellation up to 24 hours before the appointment — a full refund.
Frequently asked questions
Does the health fund cover skin tag removal?
When removal is aesthetic, it is usually not covered and is done privately. Coverage varies between funds and according to the reason for removal. The dermatologist visit to receive approval for removal — that is through the fund.
Does it hurt?
Patients describe a surface sting. In the areas we treat a numbing product is used before removal, except for the eyelid area.
How long does it take?
A single finding — 5 to 10 minutes. An area with several findings — up to 45 minutes.
When can I wear makeup?
After a week.
When do I return to a full routine?
The main recovery is up to a week, and full recovery up to two weeks. It varies between people.
Can this be done in summer?
Yes. There is no seasonal restriction. What determines it is sticking to the instruction to avoid sun exposure on the treated area during recovery.
Can I send a photo and know if it is a skin tag?
No. We do not determine a diagnosis from a photo or a description, and we do not give an opinion on WhatsApp about a finding.
Can a mole be removed at Maayan Cosmetics?
A mole is not a skin tag. A pigmented finding is examined by a dermatologist, and only a finding approved by them for removal is treated with us.
How much does the consultation cost?
The diagnosis costs 150 ₪, fully credited if you choose to proceed to a treatment plan.
Do skin tags come back after removal?
The personal tendency for new tags to appear in other areas does not disappear following removal of existing tags. This is a topic worth discussing in consultation.
